Some resources across all departments but not all.

Hello,

I expect to create a RBS with Project manager by department with several
resources but most of the projects are assigned to only one department. Some
of them are crossing several departments. So some resources of one
department must be visible and usable across all departments. How to do that
?

Thanks for help.

Regards.

To solve this puzzling little problem, you first need to specify an RBS
value for every resource in your Enterprise Resource Pool. For each
resource that is a cross-department resource, set an RBS value for the
primary (main) department in which they work. Then, you will need to
configure Project Server to use RBS for resource security by referring to
the steps in the following FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/UseRBStoControlAccessToResources.htm

When you complete the steps in the preceding FAQ, each PM will only be able
to see the resources directly below him/her as specified in the RBS field
code structure. Here's how to allow the PM's to see the resources that are
cross-departmental resources:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Manage Security
3. Click the Add Category button
4. Name the new Category something like "Cross-Department Resources"
5. Add the Project Managers group to this Category
6. In the Permissions grid, set each of the following permissions to Allow:

Assign Resource
See Enterprise Resource Data

7. In the Resource section, add the names of all cross-department resources
to the list on the right
8. Click the Save Changes button

From this point forward, your PM's will be able to see all resources
directly below them in the RBS outline code structure, AND will be able to
see all of the cross-department resources as well. Hope this helps.
