Some will convert, some won't

We have recently upgraded to Office 2007 from 2003. Most of the databases
will convert to 2007, but I have a few others that won't. I usually get an
error message that tells me the database is opened by pc number so and so (my
pc) and to try again later. I'm the only one who has it open. Why won't it
convert?

If I try doing a SaveAs it won't let me do that either.

Anyone else have this trouble? Can you help me out? Thanks

Why do you think you need to convert? There are very few instances of 2003
databases not running under 2007. My suggestion is to leave them as-is.

Our company wants us to convert everything over to the new version as much as
possible. I would like to be able to import 2007 excel spreadsheets at some
point and I wasn't sure if I could do that using an older version.

I have been reading that replication of a database will disable macros and
code. I am wondering if that is what I'm dealing with. I went to My Computer
and grabbed last year's database and made a copy of it, then renamed it and
moved it to another file. Now I'm wondering if I should open last year's
database and do a SaveAs and maybe then it will let me save it in the new
format under a different name, and maybe, just maybe the macros and code will
work. I'll let you know if this works. :)

well the message/symptom you describe sounds simply that there is someone
else in the db at the time you are attempting to convert.

if you are 100% certain no one is - and you are still getting that message;
use MyComputer to browse to the application's location and see if there is
also a .ldb icon there....this is always existing when someone is in the db.
If that is still there when no one is in the db then right click and delete
this.... I have seen occasionally where this is locked open - its rare but
it does happen.

I did as you suggested, I went to My Computer and the only files there are
mdb files. (I had them closed). Do you know of any troubleshooting sites
about converting to 2007? I have been unable to find on the MS OFfice site
that will solve this problem.
