Some Word files open slow (4 min.) when PC is on network

Some Word files open slow(4 min.)when PC is on network.
If I remove the network cable the document opens in 2 - 5
seconds. It does not make a difference whether the file
is on a network drive or if the file has been copied to
the local "C:\" drive. When I look at "Task Manager" I
see two instances of Word when opening the file while the
PC is connected to the network and only one instance of
Word when disconected from the network. I can open these
files fine on my PC at home.
It happens on all I have tested on so far - OS (NT, 2K,
XP) or Office version (2000, 2002, 2003)

Any thoughts??

The document is attached to a template that was on the network but is no
longer there (or at any rate no longer where it was). When you're connected
to the network, Word will continue searching for the missing template till
it's searched the entire network drive. When you're not connected, Word only
searches your local drive. While disconnected, go to Tools | Templates and
Add-ins and attach Normal.dot (which should be local) instead. If the
template still exists but has been moved, you can then reconnect to the
network and attach the template from its new location.
