Something strange is going on

Chris

Hello;

Just installed OFF2004 and tried online registration.

First, a message came up (Safari) that the Security Certificate for the
site could not be confirmed and that it might be fake (or something to
that effect.) I elected to continue.

Then I arrive at first registration page which requires that I sign-in
to Microsoft Passport (with which I am not familiar.) In the e-mail
address field is a default e-mail address; not mine but a that of
friend of mine with a @hotmail address. Why is her address there, and
not mine or anyone else on my address book? I tried several times and
the same adress of my friend's is the default. When I substitute my
e-mail address and my standard password (< sigh >I know < /sigh >) it
is not recognized.

I take a couple of steps back and sign up to Microsoft Passport; try
the online registration again; it worked.

Strange.

Cheers;
Chris

Hi Chris,

The easiest thing to do about this is: nothing.

You don't have to register.

If you want to, you can. Your friend's name is the last person to use a
microsoft passport on your computer. There is a setting there and the
default is to display the most recently used sign-on name.

You can go to the trouble of signing up for a free passport account at
hotmail.com, but if you don't feel like it then simply don't bother.

Hi Chris,

The easiest thing to do about this is: nothing.

You don't have to register.

Registration just lets you sign up for a newsletter--there is no activation
for MacOffice (merely local-network checks on launch). (So be sure to save
your own product keys, MS doesn't retain proof of legal ownership in any
way).
