Sort for Multicolumn Tables

Using Word XP ...

Using the Envelopes and Labels options, I have 600 labels (residential
addresses) typed inWord, which is basically at table about 3 across by maybe
10 down. I would like to sort all 600 in alphabetical order, but the
standard Data, Sort won't do that (that I can see, anyway).

Anyway to do this? I realize I could cut and paste all 3 columns to create
1 very long column, sort, and then cut and past back to original format, but
that is out of the question.

Thanks!

Thanks for your help ...

I could not get your link to load the images (I have a high speed
connection). Reading the text only, that is far more work than it is worth.

This doesn't seem like an unusual request. Is there no simple way to sort
alphabetically at table with 3 x 10 columns? Has anyone created a macro to
do it?

I'm on dialup, and the page is a little slow to load but not any more so
than most. A while back I suggested to Graham the following shortcut:

One thing that I find is a shortcut (though since I haven't read your
article carefully, I'm not sure how it would play into your procedure) is to
convert all paragraph marks to line breaks before converting a table to
text. Since the end-of-cell marker is not touched and becomes a paragraph
mark, this gives you each label record as a separate paragraph to begin
with, making it easier to distinguish the records even if there aren't extra
paragraph breaks between them. And in fact if you then convert the line
breaks to tabs, you can convert the whole lot to a table that will be
indistinguishable from the one you end up with in the end; the fields aren't
aligned if there are different numbers of lines, but you don't seem to care
about that.
