Sort subtasks by both dates

Hi,

Am trying to produce a weekly report that shows only tasks that have either
(1) certain status (e.g. red) or if the start or end dates fall within a
certain range (e.g. start dates is x weeks from today of if end date is
within x weeks). Any way that I can easily do this? I'm currently exporting
project into excel and reformatting which is getting to be a pain.

I'm new to project so any help is much appreciated..

You can do this one of two ways. I am assuming you have a separate column
that already calculates "red, yellow, green" status and this column is
working correctly.

The easiest way to get where you want might be to show all tasks, then turn
on auto filtering. Apply the date range filter (it is one of the selections
from the filter drop down (the default is "all tasks"). You are now filtered
for your date range. Then apply the autofilter to the column of the status
indicator (show only the red tasks).

Second way is to create your own custom filter. Project/Filter/More
Filters.... then select New. You will be able to logically define your own
testing criteria. It might take a little work but it can be done. In effect
you duplicate the date range filter and then add your additional filter on
top of it. You can get a quick start on it by making a copy of the date
range filter. Once that window is open, add one line that contains only the
word "OR". Below that new "OR" add your criteria for the "Red" filter on a
separate line.

See if that helps. Post back should you need more help

Filter is working like a charm. Thank you. I'm now having trouble
taking the results of the filter and exporting it to an excel file.
What i'm currently doing is saving the project file as a html page and
then changing the file extension to .xls (sort of a workaround w/o
having to use macro). However, the results file is showing the entire
project file instead of only the selected results that I am after.
Any ideas on why it's doing this or how I can better create this
"results file" and export to excel? Thanks for the help.
