sort table by date problem

when sorting table in word, using yr/mo/da format, sort is done only on da
not mo or yr. Any solutions to this or what am I doing something wrong

Do you have the sort by date option selected in the sort dialog?
eg
47/03/23

46/10/16

46/11/02

46/03/05

75/02/14

70/05/03



sorts to

46/03/05

46/10/16

46/11/02

47/03/23

70/05/03

75/02/14




or descending



75/02/14

70/05/03

47/03/23

46/11/02

46/10/16

46/03/05



which looks OK to me?
