sorting and grouping

I have a report that shows purchases by equipment. The report displays all
purchases made for whichever piece of equipment is chosen from the list. The
purchases are listed in the report along with date, description, price etc.
of the purchase. i would like to list the most recent purchases first and
the least recent last. Some of the reports have pages of purchases spanning
over a few years. I have had trouble getting the reports to sort by date
properly. Can anyone walk me through how to get the report to sort by date
(both month and year).

Open the Report in design view.
Click on View + Sorting and Grouping
As the first entry in the list, type
[YourDateField] in the Field/Expression column and DESC in the Sort
Order column.

Change [YourDateField] to whatever the actual Date field is named.
