Sorting names in Contacts for use in e-mail

I have recently moved to Office 2007 and imported all my contacts from
Outlook 2003. When I am using Contacts I can locate any name by typing part
of the last name - OK. However when I am using Mail to send an e-mail some of
the names can be located by typing in part of the last name but I have to
type in the first name to locate others. In the latter case even if I delete
and re-enter the data I still have to type in the first name to locate it.

Can anyone tell me what I can do to get all names seareable by last name?

Thanks

Your problem is likey cause by you importing. Never import when moving data
Outlook to Outlook. It's not necessary. I think your best approach would
be to start over and simply reuse the original PST. Everything will be in
the proper order for you if you do.

Thank you Brian. I still have my old computer so I will want to copy the pst
files(s) over to the new one. Sorry to be so dumb but where will I find the
file in the old computer and where will I save it in the new one?

Thanks

By default, Outlook creates its PSTs in %UserProfile%\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. You can copy the PST to any
transfer medium of your choice - flash drive, CD, what have you. You can
also copy it to a network share if you have a home hetwork set up. Outlook
should always be closed whenever you manipulate a PST in Windows.

When you place the PST on the destination PC, place it in any folder OTHER
THAN* the default folder and remove any read-only attribute the PST may have
acquired from the transfer medium. (Transferring by CD always makes a file
read-only.)

Add the PST to your existing (or new, if you're starting fresh) mail
profile, either using the Mail applet in Control Panel (my preference) or by
opening it in Outlook with File>Open>Outlook Data File.

*Actually, you can put it in the default folder, but you MUST be careful to
never overwrite any existing PST (no matter which folder you put it in) or
you run the risk of corrupting an existing mail profile.
