Sorting on user-defined fields

Tim Green

Hi.

I created a custom view in my Contacts folder, using a user-defined field
Days Until Next Birthday (a formula), and want to sort on this field.

The field displays the number of days (based on today's month/year versus
the Birthday month/year), but when I try to specify the sort order, and
select the Choose from User-Defined Fields in This Folder, my field isn't
available for sorting.

Anyone know what I might have done incorrectly?

Thanks.

You did nothing wrong. Outlook simply does not support sorting or grouping
on formula fields.

Oh. I suppose that's good and bad.

Any way I can put the result of my formula in a Value field, for sorting?

Thanks for your help.

You would have to use a custom contact form with VBScript code in the
Item_Write event setting the value of a field.
