Sorting problem in Word XP Mail/Merge

A

Ann Scharpf

I am trying to sort a mail/merge before it generates the new document. My
data source is an Excel document (that is not in the "my data source"
folder). I have tried sorting on the column heading in the M/M dialog box.
Nothing happens.

I have also tried closing the Word file and sorting the source data directly
in the Excel file. When I go into the M/M dialog, the data still appears in
the order it did before I sorted the external file.

Is there something I am missing? I cannot see why this will not work.

Thanks for your help.

Odd. The only other thing I can suggest trying (besides starting over with a
new main merge document) would be clicking the arrow next to a field name in
the Recipients dialog box and choosing the "Advanced" entry from the filter
list. This should bring you into the old Query Options dialog box, where you
can also set the Sort. Maybe this will work...
