sorting rows

I am wondering if there is a way to have Excel sort a
table of data other than ascending or descending? I would
like it to change the order of the rows in the table in
order to minimize a calculation in another cell. Is this
possible?

You can create your own sort criteria in XL by using Custom Lists.

It's easiest done by first entering your criteria in a single column, in the
exact order that you wish it to be sorted into.
Now, select the column and go to:
<Tools> <Options> <CustomLists> tab

You'll find that your selected range is already entered for you in the
Import window.
Just click <Import> and <OK>.

Now, when you go to <Data> <Sort>,
Click on the "Options" button, which brings up the SortOptions window.
In the "FirstKey" window, scroll to select your custom list and then <OK>.
Choose the balance of your options back in the Sort window, and then <OK>
again.
