Sorting selected rows

I am trying to find a way to sort a selection of rows on an Excel X spread sheet. Every time I try to do this, all rows in table are automatically selected. On my older version of Excel, I could always do this. Is this something new with Excel X?

Are you selecting the rows to sort first? That works fine for me in
XLv.X.

Yes, I select the rows first, but when I go to the Tools menu and hit sort, the whole table gets selected. I've tried it by selecting using the row arrow on the extreme left side of the table and also by selecting using the box method.

It must have been some kind of bug because when I cut and pasted all the rows into a new doc, i was once again able to select only a portion of the rows to sort. Thanks anyway!
