Sorting using an imported list

Please help

I'm tring to sort by using an imported list (a list/order I generated...2,4,7,8,10,1). I go to <TOOLS><OPTIONS><CUSTOM LINKS TAB>,I select my list and select import. I get a warning that says "cells with simple text where ignored". It wont let me import a selected list

you could type the list in or on the worksheet range enter numbers
with a apostrophe first
'2
'4
'7
etc
either way is tedious if the list is very long.
