Sortnig pages

P

Peter Lockwood

I have just started using OneNote as a way of keeping track of student
enquiries in courses I supervise. I have a page per student and jot down
notes about phone conversations etc. Each page has the student name as its
title.

I currently have around 20 students and this will expand. So for quick
access when a student phones, it would be handy to have the pages sorted
alphabetically within the section. I've looked in the help files but cannot
see a way of doing this.

Any suggestions welcome!

It has to be done manually - drag and drop the pages up and down to sort
them the way you like them.

Peter,

Our OneNote Teachers Toolkit uses students names as section headers. The
students are added to a database and can be quickly accessed. The
application includes over 20 standard forms but you can use your own just as
easily.

The Utilities Menu includes and option to re-sort all the student sections
and puts them in alphabetical order.

A full description and trial version is available from the website at
www.abletfactory.com .

Best wishes using OneNote in the classroom.

I have the same issue except students are arranged one per section.

AFAIK, the only way of sorting pages or sections in the current version is
manually page by page which is a pain in the neck.

Moving pages is slightly easier (pseudo-drag and drop) than moving sections
(the clumsy right click > Move procedure) but full drag and drop is
implemented in the next version.

I've asked for an automated alphabetical sorting feature for sections and
pages to be included in the next version (OneNote 2007) due late this year
but haven't seen it implemented yet in any of the Microsoft blogs or
previews.

Instead of trying to sort your pages which could be a real pain after you get
many more students.... is to:

Just type in the student's name in the search field and voila, pull it up
that way. (it does seem rather messy this way, as I'm the type that wants to
sort too, a visual organization)
