To all those users who have the problem of new mail not showing in the inbox.
Are you running Roxio / Sonic software ? I have discovered this is the
cause of the problem on my system. I have a Dell Dimension running Windows
Vista & Office 2007 Pro Plus. Dell install Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 DE as
the CD-writer software. This version contains a new feature called RoxWatch
which indexes all audio, video & photo files on the hard disk. It appears
this is what causes the problem but just stopping the processes & services
running didn't cure it. The only way to cure it was to completely unstall
the Roxio software. By completely this means manually deleting every
registry key associated with both Roxio & Sonic as well. Doing an uninstall
does not remove the registry keys. The following link has instructions from
Roxio for removing Easy Media creator 9 on Vista
http://kb.roxio.com/content//kb/Creator/000127CR
Be aware that because some of the registry keys are in HKEY_CURRENT_USER
they will have to be removed for each user on the system.
WARNING: Be very careful when editing the registry as if you do the wrong
thing you can cause irreparable system damage. If unsure, then I suggest you
contact a local IT expert to help you.
Although it seems bizarre that Roxio software should interfere with Outlook,
since I removed this software my inbox has continued to refresh with no
problem and I get all the new mail notification messages on the screen which
I wasn't getting before.
It would be interesting to know if anyone else finds the removal of Roxio /
Sonic software solves their problem.
