Sound Doesn't Play in PPS File on PP for Mac 2004

Hi there,

I've had this problem with a few presentations that I've received. They
work fine on my Windows XP system, but not on my iMac Intel Core Duo. The
slide show opens and video is fine, I just don't hear any sound. Is this a
known issue and what can be done to remedy it? It doesn't matter if I save
the file and open it, or whether I open it from within Entourage (or Mail).

On a similar issue, I've had situations where slideshows on this system stop
after the opening slide has displayed, not continuing onto the rest of the
presentation. Again, is this a known issue?

Hoping for some solutions. Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing that you've verified that the volume is turned up on your Mac
and that you can hear sounds from other applications. Here is a procedure
to start:
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832>

If you can hear sounds in other applications and presentations, then the
problem is probably with this presentation. If the sounds are linked, you
need to transfer the sound file as well when you transfer the files from the
Windows machine to the Mac. On the Windows platform, any sound you insert
will be linked unless it is a WAV file below a certain size.

Because you need relative links, you probably need to re-insert the sound
files into the presentation on the Windows machine. Here are some tips from
the PowerPoint FAQ:

--------------------------------
To avoid linking problems:
- Pick (or create) the folder you want to store your presentation and
movies/sounds in. Save your presentation to that folder.
- Copy sound and movie files to the same folder.
- Insert the sounds and movies into your presentation from that folder.
- When you move the PPT file to another computer, be sure to move all the
movie and sound files too. As long as you put them in the same folder as the
PPT file, the links will usually not break.
--------------------------------

If you re-insert the sound files using those steps, the sounds will probably
play on the Mac.

presentation. Again, is this a known issue?

Have you made sure that your copy of PowerPoint is up-to-date? From
PowerPoint, go to Help > Check for Updates (or manually launch Microsoft
AutoUpdate from the Applications folder). If any updates are needed, they
will display in a sheet, at which point you can check them and press the
"Install" button to download and install them.

If that doesn't help, have you made sure that, under Slide Show > Set Up
Options, the show type is set to be "Presented by a speaker"?
