sound file playing during several slides

Problem: I embedded a sound file and made the appropriate
settings necessary to play at the beginning of a series of
related slides. When I tried to use the slide advance
property to automatically advance slides after 15 seconds
while the song was playing, however, the only way the
slides would advance is by turning off the "timer" and
using the mouse click advance setting. Am I missing
something elementary here?
