Sound over silent video.

Hi!
I would welcome some assistance with the following.
I am a quite experienced Powerpoint user but have hit a snag that I cannot
resolve. At the moment I am using PPT2000 running under Windows XP Pro.
The snag is with sound stopping after a silent video is playing - let me try
and explain more fully.

This portion of the presentation consist of a series slides containiing
static pictures then three slides which contain short silent media clips
followed by more static picture slides. Sound is started with the first
slide containing a static picture using the Transition facility. The sound
runs across all the next transitions as I require.
When I get to the first slide containing a media clip then the sound plays
(as I require) whist the clip runs - and continues after the clip finishes.
But when the presentation transitions to the next slide (whether it contains
a media clip or not) the sound stops. Nowhere that I can see have I asked
it to stop at that point.

Can anybody suggest a reason and a work-around?
