Sound when "save as webpage" in Powerpoint 2008

M

Michelle

I used PPT 2008 to create a presentation. I recorded some small sound bites
on each page. These sound bites play when clicked on during presentation.

I saved the PPT as a webpage which I later plan to put on my website.
However, when I tried opening and playing the ppt locally in my browser the
sound links don't work. The speaker icons don't even appear clickable.

Any ideas?

When recording the sounds, did you have the option to choose between linking
and embedding them? You'd want to choose embedding. Otherwise, the sounds
will be linked to files that won't be available when the PPT plays in a
browser.

No, there is no place to choose the option. The following is quoted from
the help section for what I'm doing. I even looked in PPT preferences and
see nothing that would help.

I wouldn't rely on Help being complete or even necessarily 100% accurate. ;-)

I don't have 2008; on Windows versions, the option to link or not is at the
bottom of the dialog that appears when you choose to record narration.

Hi Michelle,

I can confirm that sounds don't work when using Save As Web Page (.htm).
The process generates a .htm that contains a defective Java script. The
sound won't play in FireFox, Safari, or even IE for Windows.

Use the Help menu and choose the send feedback to Microsoft option to
alert Microsoft of this problem.

Thanks.

Thanks Jim. At least I know that it's not something that I did wrong.

Related question if you happen to know. If I resave as just a PPT
presentation, open it in Office 2007 for Windows, and then resave as a
webpage, would that allow the sounds to work correctly?

Hi Michelle,

I no longer have PowerPoint 2007. I've replaced it with PowerPoint 2010.
Guess what? Save As web page or HTML is not available in PowerPoint
2010. I suspect using 2007 is worth trying for your scenario.

The future seems to be that you will save as a movie and then put the
movie on the internet to share it.

I'll try that.

It's unfortunate that they've removed the web/HTML option. I wouldn't
think that saving as a movie wouldn't allow as much interaction. I
need for students to click and hear response--one at a time.

Another option is to distribute the PowerPoint presentation itself.
Everyone has access to PowerPoint via the free on-line version or via
PowerPoint itself installed as an application.
