Had an interesting one on the Windows side of the fence that affects things
over here, so I thought I'd post the details.
User got a PPS/Show file by email. On PCs the file would play with sound
throughout. On a Mac, no sound.
The sound was embedded, not linked, so it wasn't a linking problem.
Turns out that the sound was a WAV file but one that'd probably been run
through CDEX, an app that puts a WAV "wrapper" around MP3 files. The result is
MUCH smaller sound files that PPT will embed rather than link.
Unfortunately, it gives sound files that Mac PPT can't play. Ooops.
I opened the sound in a sound editor, saved back out as WAV (where it grew from
a couple hundred Kb to 7mb or so). When I replaced the original sound in the
PPT with the new WAV, the PPT grew considerably, of course, but it also would
now play in Mac PPT 2004.
Interestingly, the original sound file *would* play on the Mac if simply
doubleclicked from the desktop, no PPT in the picture.
