Sounds not working

I saw the other discussion (that ended somewhere roughly in June this year) said it'd be fixed by updates....

Now I bought this MacBook (the black one) in September (this year), installed Microsoft Office 2008 that we bought BEFORE all the updates, so I had to install ALL the updates after installing Office from the CD. Then everything worked fine. I don't remember if I had to install another update after that, but now the sounds of Entourage are not working anymore, and nothing I've found has worked for me.

I'm using Entourage 2008 (for mac obviously), last update installed being : 12.1.4

Mac OS 10.5.5

I'd also want to mention I'm also using an iMac with same specifications (Mac OS 10.5.5 and Entourage 2008 12.1.4), on 4 different accounts, and on each one the sounds works perfectly fine...

but now the sounds of Entourage are not working anymore, and nothing I've
found has worked for me.

First check Entourage --> Preferences "Notification". Make sure that the
appropriate sounds are checked. Click the speaker icon next to them to test
your sound setup .If you can hear sounds from other applications, but not
the Entourage sounds have a look at this Apple Knowledge Base article.

Mac OS X: No audio from certain multimedia content

An application may have set your audio output settings too high. If that
fails and you have GarageBand, try opening and closing it.

Thanks, but I already saw that link. Didn't work at all for me. sounds are correctly checked, but when clicking on the speaker icon, no sound appears.

I have seen the other strings on this. I am using OSX 10.4.11 and I recently
installed office:mac 2008 and am updated to Entourage 12.1.5. I have
unchecked "No mail sound", but it still keeps playing the sound on the
automatic send/receive. I have tried your suggestions except testing in a
new user or identity. I do not know what that means, but also what would it
show me? It just happened again, and it's driving me nuts. I prefer a
number of features of Entourage to MacMail, but if I can't fix this, I'll be
going back to MacMail. It seems odd to me that these complaints have been
going on for so long without a simple solution from MS.

Thanks.

Exactly where did you check. In the Menu bar under Entourage select
Notifications. Uncheck Sent Mail sound.

Entourage creates Identities. The OS has Users. Go to System Preferences -->
Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or
use Fast User Switching. Testing in a clear environment is a good way to
eliminate any corruption or conflicts in your User's folder. Read this
article for basic terms that will help you.

The complaints about sound are long gone. Anything now is individual
settings.

Notifications. Uncheck Sent Mail sound.

In the Entourage Menu, I selected Preferences > Notifications and unchecked
"No Mail Sound."

It is not the "Sent Mail" sound I have a problem with; it is the beep that
occurs if there is no new mail every time the automated Send/Receive
executes every 10 minutes. As a matter of fact, although I do not mind that
beep if I manually hit send/receive, i cannot imagine why anyone would want
that notification on the automated send/recieve. E.g. MacMail only issues a
sound on manual send/receive, not the automated send/receive.

I set up Entourage under a new user, but I cannot get any sounds there
whatsoever under the new user. Even if I click on the megaphone icon next to
a type of sound under Notifications, I do not get a sample of the sound.

I look forward to your suggestions.

Thanks.

Did you uncheck New Mail Sound? If yes, then in Entourage create a new
Identity. Entourage in the Menu bar select Switch Identity. Select New.
Don't' even bother to enter account info. Just test the sounds.

I am using OSX 10.4.11

Try downloading the Apple combo and run it. Sometimes this clears up
problems. A combo goes back and refreshes files.

Thanks, Diane. Reloading OSX 10.4.11 from the link you gave me seemed to fix
the problem.

On an unrelated Entourage Address Book issue, I was wondering if there is
any way to see more that the first couple of lines of the "Notes" field in a
contact in the Summary view for a selected contact that displays under the
list of contacts.

Sorry, but the answer is no. Please add your voice by sending feedback to
see this feature improved.

When working in Office, you can use the ³Send Feedback² option under the
Help menu in all of the Office applications.

Thanks, Diane. I will send feedback with that suggestion.

There is another issue that I've noticed, however. With Mac Mail, even if I
the application has been turned off for several days and then I turn it on
and download my Yahoo mail, the e-mail is time stamped with the same times
and dates as it arrived on Yahoo. With Entourage, however, when I first
started using it on December 29, Entourage downloaded the prior 30 days of my
Yahoo mail, but it time stamped all of that e-mail as having arrived on 12/29
(which was not a helpful information). Also, yesterday evening when I
arrived home and turned on Entourage, it downloaded my entire 30 or so
e-mails from the day and time stamped them all as having arrived at 7:50
p.m., whereas when shortly thereafter, I turned on Mac Mail and downloaded
the same e-mail, all of those e-mails on Mac Mail were time stamped with the
accurate time that they arrived at Yahoo (i.e., as much as 15 hours earlier).
Is there a way to fix that glitch with Entourage?

Thanks.
