Source Media Location

Office 2003 Professional. On a family member's computer, when I
attempt a Detect and Repair, I am prompted to insert the source media.
I then placed the CD in the CD drive. However, the process reported
it still could not locate the source media. The process is looking
for it on a non-existent drive on the system and doesn't allow me to
point to the CD drive where I inserted it. Any ideas? Thanks.

P.S., there is no MSOCache folder on the system.

You cannot install an Office 2003 service pack

Step 2: Re-create the path of the original installation source in the registry
Especially for 80070643 if a registry cleaner is used

Probably a simplistic reply: are you inserting the CD in the exact drive you
used to originally install Office? I've noticed that I had to use another
CD/DVD drive on my system for repairs regardless of the CD being in just any
drive.

This may not apply to your problem, but ...... it might!

Thanks for the suggestion, but that is not the problem. The system is
looking for the source media on drive E. There is no drive E on the
system. Only have A (floppy), C (HDD), and D (CD/DVD drive).

Thanks. I'll check out that article and see if it helps.

I was thinking about temporarily re-assigning the CD drive (drive D)
to be the looked for drive (drive E) and see if I can get Detect and
Repair to run. If that works, I thought I would then do a registry
search for the no longer existent drive (drive E) and change all
instances to the CD drive (drive D). Any comments on this approach?
Thanks.

Whatever you feel best for you basically. Have you considered a clean install of Office,
removing and reinstalling.
You may need to use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to clean the registry.

A re-install is not that simple. The problem is on my #1
son-in-law's machine and he has misplaced his Office 2003 Pro source
media. Thanks for the heads up on use of the cleanup utility.
