I keep clicking on the SP 2 download and install but it won't let me install

I don't know why no one is jumping in and helping here. There's something
wrong with this Service Pack update. MICROSOFT GET A CLUE.

Okay, here's what you have to do:

1. You need to get into one of your Office Programs (Word, Outlook, Excel,
etc.)
2. Go to Help on the top command bar and click. Next, select "Detect &
Repair"
3. Make sure you have your original installation source available (CD or
network path)
4. Let the repair option run. Insert your CD (or direct to network source)
when prompted
5. Next, repair any other office program that WASN'T included in the
original suite
i.e. Publisher, FrontPage, etc. You need to run Detect and Repair for
ANY OFFICE PROGRAM
6. If these repair sessions have been successful. Reboot your computer.
7. Now, go to ANY OFFICE PROGRAM. Select HELP from the top tool bar. Next
Select "Search for Updates"
8. Let this program find Service Pack 2. Then click "Download and Install
Updates".
9. The program will jump right to the installation because the update has
already been installed.
10. The installation should now BE SUCCESSFUL!

GOOD LUCK.

Microsoft, are you listening? Just give these instructions or fix the update!

I'm sorry, I have a typo in instruction 9--I meant the program has been
DOWNLOADED. It will be installed after the repair and with hope your
installation will go successfully!

What does the EventViewer say? Mine asked for a cab file belonging to the
Frontpage 2003 installation. So I reinstalled that app and after that the
installation asked for another cab file in the FP 2003 installation. Made a
detect and repair but still asking for the same file....

The point is this should work automatically (or with minimum client input).

Clear it is a widespread issue looking at the postings.

MS rate the update is High Priority.

It is broken and Microsoft need to fix it ASAP.

Of course you're right. Who is listening?

Tried the full install. It failed also. Will try the procedure above & let
you know.

OK, tried that. I got an error message "Error 1327 Invalid Drive F:\" I got
the same error when I tried to repair using my Office installation CD.
Strange because my CD drive is H:

It seems that you previously installed Office from a drive f:\ . I have
experienced this from most versions of Office, the first install
drive/directory sticks without giving you a chance to change its address. The
easiest thing to do might be to temporary at least change the CD drive to F:
if you have a installation CD for it. Or you might have had an network
installation on a network share F:\ - then use that again. Otherwise you
might be losed - you have to reinstall your Office from your H: drive, which
is not too bad either - good luck!

That might have been easier that what I did, but what finally worked was the
procedure in KB article 903776 which I found by searching "error 1327" This
article also details some reasons the error may have occurred. This article
basically has you erase the history of install locations, install the patch,
and then recreate an install history. MS has a utility for this. The
strangest part about it is that, I checked the registry and it lists H:\ as
the install drive. All's well that ends well, I guess.
