Frank, I just fixed mine. I was having same problem. The
SP3 downloaded on my computer but the installation woulc
not complete. Here is what you do. Refer to Knowledge
Base ARticle 302399.
You have to disable Norton Anti Virus.
The way to do this is go to Programs, Norton Anti Viris,
Options, UNCHECK the following items: Enable Auto Protect
and Starts Auto Protect when you start windows.
(These can be re enabled after you have installed your
updated for Office 2000 as there are other updates you
need to install other than SP 3)
After you have disabled these two items. Recheck your
Office Updates and it will ask you for your original
disc. Then the installation will install perfectly.
There is something in Norton Anti Virus that will not
let Office install and Norton has not corrected this yet
through live updates. I know because all my Norton
Updates are up to date.
Let me know if you have any problem.
