I have tried to install Service Pack 4, took almost all
day, at the end of which I was informed that a number of
files could not be installed, most ending with .exe, such
as cacls.exe, ftp.exe, convert.exe, chkdsk.exe,
scardsaver.exe, subst.exe, accwiz.exe, userint.exe and
many others. Following this, each time I turned on the
computer I was told that Windows files have
been 'replaced' by unknown files and the computer may not
work, do I want to restore the original files. Eventually
I took out my Windows 2000 Professional disk again and
supposedly 'upgraded' or 'repaired' only to find that my
previously downloaded and functioning IE 6 and Outlook
Express 6 had reverted to IE 5 and Outlook Express 5 and
my Nero Express programme for CD-RW had to be uninstalled
and then re-installed. All of this of course takes time,
and is highly unsatisfactory. Why are the SP products so
deficient, why does Microsoft continue to put out
these 'updates' that are overloaded and then turn uout to
be non-functioning?
