SP1 Install Hangs

R

Rob Smith

Hello,

I am attempting to install Office 2004 SP1 on a G5. The installer reaches
the "Gathering information..." point, the spinning beachball appears, and I
need to force quit the installer program to continue. I've tried under a
different user, with Anti Virus software removed, and every other way
possible, and the same thing happens.

I have had similar problems with installers written using versions of
Installer Vise. The makers of this software have indicated that older
versions of Installer Vise cause such problems on some G5 machines. Could
that be the case here?

Thanks,
Rob Smith

If you have an iDisk or a network volume mounted, they will be scanned
as well. That's an issue with the Installer VISE they use. It will take
an extremlylo ime to procs, but it should install the updat (I went away
for a while on a coffee break through the process: really!).

I think it is (though it's not "G5 only"). Just be (very) patient...

Was anyone who had the same problem able to install the update? I have
an iBook G3 where it doesn't work, and my sister has an iBook G4 where
it does work (both have a valid Student license, don't worry!). I don't
use iDisk, my sister does.

I left it running all night long, without any result.

If no-one here can solve this issue, I think there is no option left
besides contacting Microsoft directly?

I'm not really sure of the problem here because the original posts have
dropped out of sight in my newsreader. Both of you, definitely try
repairing permissions before and after any attempts at installing anything.

Re service pack, try downloading and installing it manually rather than
using AutoUpdate, perhaps.
