SP2 does not execute - "Version Found Not Expected"

After even downloading the full version, the file starts to execute, then a
message like "Expected Version Not Found" flashes and the update stops
executing.

What is the cause and work around?

It can happen from a corrupted product install, or mixing and Admin Point
based Office install with a web update, or a prerequisite update isn't
been 'seen' as installed, among other causes.

Was your original installation from an Office Admin Point, an Office CD or???
From start=>run type %temp% and look for the MSInnnn.log file and the logfile
in the ohotfix \folder to see if it gives specifics on which product it
hit.

Please look in Add/Remove Programs. If you see Office Web Components, try
uninstalling that and applying the patch afterwards. Please let us know if it
works. You can reinstall OWC afterwards, it's on the web.

For the 2 methods you need the cd office 2003 in the drive running

Try doing a repair install, then try the update again:

Method 1 – Open Word, go to Help – Select Detect and Repair

or use Method 2 -

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click the Office program that you want to repair, and then click Change.
4. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, click Reinstall or Repair,
and then
click Next.
5. In the Reinstall or Repair Office dialog box, click Detect and Repair
errors in my
Office installation, and then click Install.
6. When the repair process is finished, run the update again.

Most likely you will need to have your Office CD handy.
