SP2 for Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint

I have been asked to review this SP release in preperation for installation
on oue servers. In particular I have a question reqarding the prerequisites.
I havent been able to find this info documented anywhere so I figured I'd try
the real world and see if anyone out there might have an answer...

Does the install require sysadmin access on the SQL back end specifically
for dropping or creating a new database, drop or create a SQL Agent job or
select any data from the system databases or will dbowner be sufficient for
the install.

Thanks for any help.

I'm not sure about the specific permissions you ask about, but SP2 should be
installed by the user who is the Farm Administrator. When you created the
Farm, you'll have selected which user account was used (windows or SA) to
access the SQL instance, so I expect that the Farm Administrator is not
required to drop any dbs etc. Also, the farm admin might not have any
delegated rights to the PWA instances (or indeed the SSP).... So my gut
feeling to your Q is NO.

The Technet article about deploying updates for SharePoint Server
(http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263467.aspx) states dbcreator
and securityadmin rights are needed:

"For the account that you use to install the software update and run the
SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard, the minimum
permissions are the following:

- Member of the Administrators group on the local computer that runs Office
SharePoint Server 2007.

In SQL Server, the account must be all of the following:

- Authorized to access all SharePoint Products and Technologies databases.
- Granted the Database Creators (dbcreator) fixed server role.
- Granted the Security Administrators (securityadmin) fixed server role."

Hope that helps.
