SP2 Upgrade failed

David Blair

Hello,
Upon running the SP2 upgrade on a single application\front end server
connected to a single SLQ 2005 server, I did the following: Applied the WSS 3
SP2, did not run the Wiz, applied the Office Server SP2 then ran the Wiz. It
failed in the middle with an error: Could not find stored procedure
'dbo.proc_putObject'.

I eventually used the Wiz to Disconnect (thinking I'd run it again and
connect to an existing farm) but, alas, it wouldn't connect because it said
my 'Sharepoint_Config' database is not a valid Configuration DB.

So, I have DB backups and I have a complete snapshot of the Project Server
Application server (it is a VM). The question is: Can I just create a new
Farm (using all the same servers and names) and the attach the same content
and provision PWA attaching to the same Project Server databases? Or, should
I bring back the snapshot and restore the Config database and hope it all
still works like before I tried to run SP2? I'm just not sure what state
things are in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated (I also have the log).

Hi there ,

I have come across something similar. It seems like during the upgrade
process (Wizard) something goes wrong. It then does not roll back the changes
that was made up to that point. So now you are sitting with DB's thats out of
sync.

I would suggest creating a new farm and restore you backed up DB's after you
have created a new farm. Bearing in mind that any workspaces that has been
created will not be restored as jy are in the SharePoint_Config DB.

Restore the snapshot on a dev server and export the Workspaces using STSADM
and restore them to the "live" environment.

Then i would suggest you arther make SharePoint Farm Backups. Doing it that
way you also backup the Config DB.
