SP3 for Office 2003 kills printing

My users have reported that they ceased to be able to print to any
mapped network printer after SP3 for Office 2003 was pushed out to
their computer by GFI LANGuard. So I installed the update to my
computer, and now I can't print. An error pops up instantaneously,
even for a test page. Has anyone else encountered this?

Can you expand a bit on what is a network printer in this case? (e.g.
standard tcp/ip, windows print server, .etc) Outside of that, if GFI
LANGuard can shutdown applications from using the network that it doesn't
know about, I would start by removing end point security applications to see
if printing returns.

ps - i print via standard tcp/ip and office 2003 sp3 works fine. it
wouldn't be hard for me to establish a printer on a server and share it out.

I now have the same problem. I have a laptop with Office 2003 that I just
updated with SP3. Now it won't print. This is a "home" computer and
printer, wireless connection between them. The desktop, without SP3, is
still printing fine. The error message is no help, it just says that there
was an error printing. What "endpoint security" thing should I try to
disable - and will it still work after I enable the security again?

OK - I figured it out. Disable your firewall on your security system. You
can usually access this from the system tray down my the clock, look for the
security icon for whatever program you run - I use Computer Associates.

Anyway, disable the firewall, print any document, then enable your firewall
again.

Not sure why, but this works. Just remember to turn on your firewall again!
