sp3 for project proffessional

Hello, we are running project server 2003. SP3 has been installed on desktops
with project pro 2003. Now when we try to save a project locally as an excel
file, we get an error that says "operation failed" and the project is never
exported.

Does anyone know how to fix this. I believe it has something to do with the
new security features that comes with SP3, however I am not sure.

Microsoft added a new option to your Options dialog. You will need to
require each of your Microsoft Project 2003 users to do the following:

1. Launch Microsoft Project 2003.
2. Click Tools - Options.
3. Click the Security tab (it's the new one).
4. In the Legacy Formats section, select the "Allow loading files with
legacy or non default file formats."
5. Click the OK button.

This should solve your problem. Hope this helps.

I oppologize, I am new to Project server and new to our environment here.
They did not install sp3, they installed a MS security patch MS08-018. I
figured this out when i noticed that the security tab was missing the Legacy
Formats section.

When did this problem begin? Has the export to Excel functionality ever
worked properly? If so, what changed from when it worked and when it
stopped working? Without knowing this type of information, I'm in the dark
as to what might be causing this problem. I would suggest that your tech
staff apply SP3 on the user's PC to see if this resolves the problem. I
think it is prudent to stay current with Service Packs for Microsoft Project
and Project Server. Let us know what you find.

Ok so we figured out that the problem was indeed the MS08-018 security patch.
the patch was released after SP3 and the pc didn't have sp3 installed yet. we
unstalled the patch and now it works fine. We will be installing SP3 for both
project and project server very soon.

Thanks again for all of your advise. :)
