SP3 problems with FrontPage

I posted the following message with the FrontPage group last week, but
didn't get any replies, so I figured I would try with the office group,
since it is an Office patch. Thanks for any help!

-------------

I am using FrontPage 2000 with Windows 98. I didn't have any of the office
2000 service patches installed. A couple of days ago I updated all the
office software to SP3. All the office software has worked fine since then.
However, I just tried using FP for the first time since updating and I ran
into a problem.

In trying to import a file, and also trying to save changes to a page, I
received the following message:
"An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors - if
authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this
server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more
details"

I've never had a problem importing before. I create the web site on my
computer and then upload through FrontPage publish web to my ISP host
server.

Any advice is appreciated

Hi William,

Sorry to hear that. :-(

The only problem I know of that you could encounter with the SP3 is if
you also use Norton AV. It has an Office Plug-in option that is a
little too aggressive and has been known to prevent you opening
previously saved files.

If you have Norton AV or if Norton was ever installed then that would
be something to try.

Beth,

I'm the other person that William was referring to that had a problem with
the Office SP-3 and FrontPage AND I am using Norton. Assuming that could be
part of the problem, how would you suggest fixing it?

Hi Jim,

If you are using Norton AV then go to Norton Options and in the
Miscellaneous section turn off "Enable Office Plug-in".

If you are not using Norton AV but if it was installed at one time
then the DLL for the Office Plug-in could still be registered.

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details on the
unregister command if you need them:

Beth,

I have Norton AV Corporate Edition and could not find anything regarding
"Enable Office Plug-in". The only thing similar I found was under configure
and there was a check box for "Enable Microsoft Exchange realtime
protection".

I looked at the KB article, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to fit my
problem,

Thanks for your efforts

Jim

Hi Jim,

Did you see the second portion of my reply and search for
"officeav.dll"?

Norton CE does not have the Office Plug-in option. However if Norton
AV was installed and later upgraded then the DLL could still be
registered.
