Space bar is acting like the control key

Has anyone ever heard of the space bar being reassigned to be the control key
in PowerPoint 2007? You can only type one word in a text box and when you hit
space the quick key letters come up and if you hit one of the it does the
function of the quick key i.e. "space bar" N brings up a new document, "space
bar" S saves the document as if the space bar is the control key. If you
have heard of it tell me how to reassign it back to be a space bar! Thanks!!

The only way to reassign a shortcut key in PowerPoint 2007 is through a third
party add-in.

See: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HP101547101033.aspx

Have you tried a different keyboard? Does it happen in other Office
products, other software or only PowerPoint 2007? Do you have any add-ins
installed?

Have you installed SP1? Click Office button, PowerPoint Options. Resources,
Check for Updates.

Sounds to me as though you may need a new keyboard.

Maybe try another one as a test. That way you'll know if it's a problem with
the specific keyboard or if it's probably a setting or something.

I'd bet on a faulty keyboard too but it is possible to remap keys using the
registry. If there's a chance this is the problem "keytweak" may help (google)

Hi DDHinAustin,

The very first thing I would suggest would be a full cold re-boot. Turn the
computer off, unplug it from the wall, count to 42, plug it in and see if
the problem resolves.

If that does not work, then I would suggest (as the others have) borrowing
another keyboard. If that works then you should replace the one you are
using (or forget to return the one you borrowed :) .
