Space bar, period, comma quit working in Word 2003

Under Tools\Options General tab, make sure the 2 wordperfect check boxes are
unchecked.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the suggestion. They were not checked. I have a transcription
program that uses Word and I am not having that problem when I transcribe;
however, it seems that my medical dictionary has gone missing as well. I
tried the Repair option and it didn't help. Any other suggestions?

Possible addin?

Try starting Word in safe mode and see if the problem persists. If working
in safe mode check for any addins Tools\Templates and add-ins

You could also rename your normal.dot file to normal.bak in windows explorer
and re- start word.

I'll see if I can find any other reference.

Start Word in Safe Mode and test. From Start, Run, type in

winword /a

and press enter. Do all keyboard characters type OK in Safe Mode?

J

Joy

Yes, they do.

That narrows it down to the most likely suspects as being a corrupt
normal.dot (unlikely), corrupt Word Data Key in the registry (unlikely) or a
corrupt/incompatible add-in. I suggest removing all the add-ins, testing to
see if it is OK, then re-add the add-ins until you find the culprit. The
transcription program seems to most likely suspect though.

See how to find add-ins

Thanks again for the help. There were no add-ins, but I did rename
normal.dot to normal.bak and restarted Word and everything is back to normal.
Thanks so much for your help!

Thanks so much for your help. It was in fact a correct normal.dot I
followed Brian's instructions above and it seemed to clear everything up.
Thanks again for your time and help!

What a bizarre set of symptoms for a bad normal.dot! Quite unusual but not a
surprise though. At least all is OK now.
