I cant use space in equations-editor. I am using windows 7.0. Earlier, I
used to press CTRL and tap the space bar and I get the space inserted. Now
whatever I do, no space gets in.

I'm not sure what you mean by "windows 7.0", but ctrl + spacebar should
insert a space in every version of Equation Editor that I know about.
Someone else suggested changing to Text style to insert a space. That will
work too, but I can imagine it's more steps than you want to go through each
time you want to insert a space -- especially if there are very many of
them.

OTOH, if it's always at the same point in your equation or expression that
you're inserting the space, a way to get around having to insert the space
is to change the default spacing. For example, when typing an ordered pair
-- (x, y), for example -- I always want more space after the comma. The way
to change the default spacing is in the Format menu. Click on Spacing and
you'll see several options there. For my example of the ordered pair, the
one I'd change is titled (strangely enough) "spacing adjustment".
