space saving

Hi,

I recorded all my classes this semester and used the recordings throughout
the semester. Now that it's over, I want to delete all the audio files and
reclaim the space.

I found all the audio files (searching on wma was the most complete way) and
deleted them out of the notebooks. Too bad there isn't a tabular form that
lets you quickly see and select all multimedia files in your notebook...

After deleting them, I optimized the cache.

My notebooks are "remote" in the sense that the notebooks are stored to a
thumb drive and I usually just work out of the cache. I inserted the thumb
drive and forced a sync.

I checked the amount of space used on the drive before and after and it
hasn't changed appreciably. Last semester, I took notes, but no audio, in
all my classes and only used a couple dozen megabytes. Now my notebook
storage is still on the order of 600 MB.

What do I need to do in order to recover that space?

Thanks,
Rudy

You may need to run optimize on the notebook itself. Make sure OneNote
is connected to the thumb drive/server where the notebook is stored (if
the notebook is not stored on your local machine), then go to
Tools->Options->Save->"Optimize All Files Now", and let OneNote sit
idle for some time (leaving it overnight works best). Normally OneNote
will run optimize in the background whenever you haven't been actively
using OneNote for some time, but if you always quit OneNote immediately
after a notetaking session it may not be getting the opportunity to do so.

Hi Ilya,

Thank you for the reply.

I did try optimizing the notebook with the thumb drive inserted. I noticed
a small (1 or 2MB) change, but nothing to indicate that the audio files were
no longer being stored..
