Spacebar in Outlook advances to the next email

Whenever I hit my spacebar in Outlook it advances to the next message. Not a
problem if I'm reading mail but quite impossible to reply to anything because
as soon as I hit the space bar, Outlook advances me to the next message.

I don't see the issue. Simply press the Reply button.

It's only when you try to fill in the form in the preview pane - if you open
the message and then fill in the form it will work normally as just a space
bar.

That behaviour is a setting you can adjust. Tools | options | other |
Preview Pane (or reading pane on older versions).

The bottom selection there is the one that enables " single key reading
using spacebar" Turn it off if you don't want to use it.
