Spaces at End of Line

Because they don't. That's the way Word is designed. You can change the
behavior by checking "Wrap trailing spaces to the next line" on the
Compatibility tab of Tools | Options, but if you want an indent on the next
line, you'd be better advised to (as appropriate) use a hanging indent,
start a new paragraph, or use a line break (Shift+Enter) and Tab.
