Is there a way to get MS Word to automatically eliminate
the second space preceeding a new scentence if the
automatic line breaking breaks the line between the two
spaces.
Hi, Fred,
The specific answer to your question is "no". The general answer is, "you
shouldn't have to". Word's usual behavior is that spaces at the end of a
line just hang out there, past the right margin if necessary, instead of
pushing the next line in from the left margin. That means that normally
they're invisible.
If that's not happening for you, check one of the more obscure options: Go
to Tools > Options, on the Compatibility tab, and scroll down to the bottom
of the list. If the option "Wrap trailing spaces to next line" is checked,
uncheck it (although it's a mystery how it might have gotten checked without
you knowing about it).
Finally, all right-thinking people know <grin> that you aren't supposed to
use two spaces between sentences if you're using proportional fonts.
Actually, the one-space-vs.-two-spaces argument has been raging for at least
a decade with no answer in sight.
