Spacing between lines in Word 2008 12.1.9

I am working on formatting a book in Word.

I am finding that I have too much space between both paragraphs and lines
within paragraphs.

I have been able to adjust this in The PC version of Word, but have not
found the trick with Word for Mac.

I have experimented with the formatting pallet and made the paragraph
spacing as 0 and 0 but there is still too much space between paragraphs.
I have found no way to adjust line spacing.

What am I missing

Thanks
Dunc

Open Format menu, Click Paragraph. you should see in one section about
space between line 10pt. Change that O. Then Save in your Normal Profile.

Or save as a Book Style then before you start you book select book style.

Its one of the dumbest idea MS came up with. If you do a Book or letter
you use single space.

If your doing something special like dissertation, or some project that
require double or triple space then you click on double or triple space.

Why they suddenly added something like after 23 years no one will ever know.

My preference is to permanently change this in the Normal.dotx style and
be done with it.

Hi Dunc;

I'm no sure what's throwing you off because formatting & Styles are handled
the same in both Mac Word as well as PC Word [although 2007 on the PC might
cause you to believe otherwise :)]. Word is a Styles-based program, so for
any document that requires consistent structure & formatting it's far better
to manage formatting with Styles rather than making direct changes.

You'll benefit greatly from some of the content you'll find in this free
download, which is pretty much considered as one of the most authoritative
sources in existence. It hasn't been updated specifically for Word 2007/2008
but the material & the concepts are as valid as ever:
