When hitting the space bar it is spacing 2 spaces, I only need one space, help! thanks

That shouldn't be happening. Are you sure you are not accidentally
hitting the space bar twice, or holding it down? Try pressing it very
carefully. Launch TextEdit. Do you see the same issue?

Yeah - that sound weird to me too - but not necessarily a Word bug.

I seem to recall that in some previous version of Word you could set
AutoCorrect to replace a single space with a double - or vice-versa - but
even that doesn't work in 2008. There is no other setting in Word that could
be causing it. In fact, I don't even know of any way to force it, let alone
trigger such behavior accidentally.

Do you have any other utility/keyboard mgmt software installed? And are you
*sure* that's what's happening or does it just *look* like 2 spaces? Turn on
the non-printing characters (¶) to confirm whether there are one or two dots
like this · between words.

Another thought - Is it possible you wrote "space bar" when you actually are
referring to the *return key*?
