Spam blocking in Outlook 2003

I added the 'received from' - "IP address" found in spams email options menu
into the Junk Email options window to block that IP's spam. It fails to
block future spam
emails from that IP address. Is this a problem?

Care to state your Outlook version and exactly how you added the IP address?

Brian:

Sure. First I right click on the spam email and select options. Then I
scroll down to the "Received: from <address.com/IP.add.res.s>" line (7-9th
line down) and see the email address and IP address. I select the IP address
because the email address can be changed by a character, but usually a
smaller number of IP addresses are used. I highlight the IP address and
cntrl-C to copy to the clipboard.

Next, I back out to the spam email again where I right click and select junk
email. I then select "Junk E-mail Options". There I select the "Blocked
Senders" tab. This brings up a window that allows me to enter either an
email address or an IP address. I click on the "Add" button and paste the
IP Address into the field, hit OK and APPLY. I've noted that the apply
button will not activate if the IP address ia already in the list.

I've also noticed that wild card characters such as " ? " or " * " do not
seem to work either (i.e. for email address where the first 4 characters are
changine [WJEK.savvis.com]}, a *.savvis.com added to the Blocked Senders list
doesn't remove the next address if it is say, KEXJ.savvis.com.

Does this help?

The Blocked Sender's list doesn't operate on any Received headers. Use a
rule that examines the headers.

Wildcards aren't a part of any Outlook processing. Again, a rule that
examines the headers for "savvis" would eliminate all mail whose headers
include that string.
