Spam email

I have noticed recently that I've been getting a lot more spam email. I have
just been marking it as junk mail and it is deleted. But it's getting to be
too much. How does a junk email filter work with Outlook? Is there any
program (preferably free) that I can use to eliminate most of this spam?

Outlook has no way of marking messages as junk, so I know you haven't done
that.

The Junk E-mail filter examines certain characteristics of the message and,
based on those characteristics, either places it in the Junk E-mail folder
(if you have Outlook 2003 or better) or deletes it, based on the options you
chose for the Junk E-mail filter. Outlook versions 2002 and prior don't
have effective junk mail filters at all.
