I made the mistake a few days ago posting my real email
address on this website. Now I get spam nonstop. Does
anyone know how I can get my email address removed from a
previous comment I left??

Thanks, Josh

Josh,

I do not think it's possible to remove a posting or edit it to remove some
text. But, even if it were, your real email address has already been
"harvested" and is now in use by the email virus on infected computers.

You'ld need to remove it from every single PC worldwide which has been
infected with the SWEN/Gibe-F virus and which has happened upon your
newsgroup post.

If you're assuming that "the newsgroup" is sending you the virus,
sorry - that's not what happens. Virus-infected computers get their
addresses from the newsgroups and then spam themselves to all the
harvested addresses, using OTHER harvested addresses on the "from"
line so that you can't identify the real source.

So... sorry, but it's too late! You're joining the thousands of other
folks in the same fix.

And, the more you've posted, and the more your messages have been saved on
people's PCs, the more virus/worm messages you get. I had to disable the
e-mail address that I'd had for years and had used un-disguised in my
newsgroup posts -- the mail server was getting multiple tens of megabytes of
virus/worm e-mail for me every day.

I broadcast a message to everyone in my secure address book (not in OE nor
Outlook, because I don't want to be the source of such mail on the offchance
that my computer became infected) and they set up an AutoResponder for a few
days -- it sent a message that was easy for human to determine what the new
address was, but not easy for a spam-bot getting a returned message to
extract. So far, I've had neither spam nor virus messages to the new userid,
and you won't see it in my headers, anymore, either.
