I have upgraded from FP 2000 to FP2003. When ever I go to an add some text
to an existing page FP2003 inserts a span tag
<span lang="en-au"> </span> from my insertion point. How do I stop this
from happening.

TIA

This occurs because FrontPage feels the body of your Web
page isn't Australian English, and your keyboard *is*
Australian English. It therefore flags any new, key-
entered information as (you guessed it) Australian
English.

To stop this:

1. Choose Web Settings from the Tools menu.
2. Set Default Page Encoding to US/Western European.
3. Make sure the Ignore The Keyboard When Deciding The
Encoding Of New Pages check box is cleared.

If the the problem persists for certain pages, you may
need to correct the language settings for those pages.
For example:

1. Choose Properties from the File menu.
2. Click the Language Tab.
3. Set Mark Current Document As to <none>.
4. Set Save The Document As to US/Western European.
5. Set Reload The Current Document to
<Automatic Encoding>.

(I know that Australia isn't exactly Western European,
but English is.)
