Span text across two fields

Is it possible to span text across two fields in a Word 2000 document? The user desires a protected form with 16 fields, all on page 1. They desire that Fields 13 and 14 be able to "continue" on a page 2 if the text exceeds the space they have allocated for those two fields on page 1.

Would it work to merge the two?

As described, no, this is not possible. If the form fields (from the FORMS toolbar) are within a table, however, and the table row containing them breaks to a new page, then the text will continue to the next page, within the fields.
