Typing option + e, release, then type the vowel needed normally results in
an é. This works fine in Word but occasionally it stops working. Even though
other vowels can be accented, the letter e all of a sudden stops accepting an
accent. Even if I change the keyboard key assignment to Spanish to reduce
the number of keystrokes to get acute accents (left bracket key, release,
then type vowel --two keystrokes instead of three), the e refuses to take
this accent mark as it had been doing before. I must resort to the tedium of
Insert > Symbol to insert é. If I open a new document, typing é again
becomes possible. I have had this same occasional difficulty in Powerpoint
as well. Why does Word suddenly stop allowing the typing é at times, even
though I can continue typing á, í, ó, ú?
