spanish characters

I need to type Spanish characters (like the upside down ?) in Publisher. I
used to use the alt and numbers system - now I have a laptop with no keypad
and it no longer seems to work. I enabled Spanish on my computer in Microsoft
office tools - is there something else I need to do? Thanks

Your laptop should have a numeric keypad "hidden" behind the regular keys.
Every one I've used does. It's accessible using the Fn key. Sometimes
activating NumLock turns them on (so you don't have to use the Fn key),
sometimes NumLock must be turned on in order to access them using the Fn
key.

Alternatively, you can add the Spanish keyboard layout through the Language
bar or Control Panel > Regional and Language Settings. You can then switch
between it and English using the language bar.

The num lock trick worked - the letter keys on the left of the keyboard
actually have tiny numbers on them. I can't figure out the language bar
though - I can see it, but I don't know how to active it.

Once you have the language bar open, clicking the little triangle at the end
accesses a drop-down menu. The Settings button will take you to a dialog in
which you can alter your input language settings.
