Speaker notes & dual screens, PowerPoint v.X

Hi,

I'm trying to use Microsoft PowerPoint to display a slideshow
presentation on a projector, while looking at my speaker notes on the
PowerBook LCD screen. I've setup the monitors properly, & the slideshow
to show up on the second "screen", which is the projector.

What I can't seem to do is to advance the slide, & have the speaker
notes advance at the same time, to match the slide.

Is there a way to do this?

I'm using Office V.x on a 12" PowerBook.

Thanks.

Kwan.

Hi

This sounds like it would make a great feature suggestion. Please use
PowerPoint's help menu and choose feedback and pass your suggestion on to
Microsoft.

Hmmm, sounds like it's not possible then. Given that Microsoft bills the
dual screen feature as specifically for the purpose of having speaker
notes available while the slideshow is playing, I find this an amazing
oversight!

Hi

I'm at a distinct disadvantage here since I only have one monitor. This is
from PowerPoint 2001 help:

Set up a slide show to run on a second monitor
Important You must have dual-monitor hardware in order to use this
procedure, and your monitors must be configured for extended desktop or
video mirroring. For more information for about enabling multiple monitor
support, see Mac OS Help.
Use this procedure to run a slide show on the full screen of a secondary
monitor while you view the presentation in normal view on the primary
monitor. This lets you see your outline and notes along with the slides,
while your audience sees only the slides.
1. On the Slide Show menu, click Set Up Show.
2. In the Set Up Show dialog box, click Screen, and then click the monitor
you want the slide show to appear on.

Did you try the above?

Did all that. The procedure is more or less that same with Office v.X &
it displays fine. The problem is with advancement of the slide. Press
the right arrow or space bar, or click the mouse, & the slide advances.
Fair enough.

But, wait, the LCD, which is showing the notes page, stays the same &
doesn't advance. You have to move the mouse (using the trackpad) to the
LCD monitor, select the window which is showing the notes, then click
the down arrow on the scroll bar to get to the next page.

Then, to advance the slide again, you have to move the mouse to the
projector monitor, select the borderless window which contains the
slideshow, then use the spacebar, etc, to advance the slide.

Giving a talk while moving the mouse back & forth, concentrating on
clicking the down arrow, having the mouse cursor appear on the projected
slideshow when you go to select that window, and trying to read both
screens at the same time... gee, just too much & too hard.

Hi Kwan,

Fair enough. Then I think the thing to do is to send in a feature request.
Think about how it should work in an ideal world, write it up and send your
ideas to Microsoft by using the feedback choice on PowerPoint's help menu.

Right now Microsoft is building the next version of Office for the Mac, so
there's hope your ideas could be incorporated into the product.
